Humor – the FREE Solution to Stress
Dr. Susan I. Mathieu, Ed.D., RTC/CTRS
Laughter can remove some of the negative effects of stress. Dr. Mathieu will offer helpful and humorous suggestions on how to identify stressors and master life changes that lead to a happier life. In addition, humor increases one’s outlook on life resulting in rationale and kind behavior. We all need more “nice” in our lives.
Dr. Susan Mathieu has been listed as a Who’s Who Among America’s Women and Teachers, received “Outstanding Therapeutic Educator Award” from the National Recreation and Parks Association. Dr. Mathieu has presented papers addressing mental health and wellness of older adults at training workshops and professional conferences, including regional, national and international conferences. Dr. Mathieu’s research is on Reducing Stress with Aging Adults. She currently is an Adjunct Professor, Florida International University, Department of Leadership and Professional Studies, and Coordinator Senior Adults & Program Director, Active Adults Community Connection (Grant Archstone Foundation), Alpert Jewish Community Center, Long Beach.

Aging Care Costs: Now’s the Time to Plan!

One out of two people will need long-term care at some time. Seventy percent (70%) of those over the age of 65 will need some kind of long-term care. The fact is that each year our likelihood of needing assistance increases due to our aging bodies and minds. The costs of assistance can devastate most middle class families unless they have implemented a plan to pay for the unexpected. This session will cover the looming costs of assistance and how and why to plan for these costs.

New Technologies in Eye Care

With the use of technologies such as iStent, intraocular pressure in patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma is reduced. iStent is FDA approved and is the smallest device developed for glaucoma therapy. Lasers are now offering a precision based solution for cataract surgery. This is a bladeless, computer-controlled laser surgery planned and performed to exact individualized specifications which are not attainable with other surgical methods. The Implantable Microscope Technology (IMT) is the first-of-kind telescope implant for treating patients with end-stage macular degeneration.

Anita Milner – “America’s Slowest Rising Young Comic”
Being a septuagenarian with several spinal issues hasn’t kept Miss Anita from living life to the fullest. At 78, she performs comedy several times a month all over Southern California, appearing regularly at Aces Comedy Club in Murrieta and Pechanga Comedy Club in Temecula. And, as a licensed California attorney, she also has an active legal practice, focused on Trusts and Estate Planning for Seniors. (www.anitamilner.com)
Marty Ross – “The Wrinkled Rebel”
They call Marty Ross the “Wrinkled Rebel” but if that’s true, he says he’s “going down fighting.” According to Marty, “The truth is everyone ages but no one tells you what you’re in for when you’re “freakin’ old” so that’s Marty’s mission. Whether it’s sex, drugs, Medicare or dating, this senior has plenty to say about what it’s like to be older in America. Marty is now single, older, still very much alive and delighting audiences all over the Western United States and on the Las Vegas Strip. Last year he recorded a pilot for Vin Di Bona Productions and he has just launched his first comedy CD, “Wrinkled Rebel: Going Down Fighting, But First, A Nap.” (www.martyross.com)
